Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between GCF and LCM?

The greatest common factor (GCF) is the biggest number that divides evenly into all your numbers. The least common multiple (LCM) is the smallest number that all of them divide into. GCF is useful for simplifying fractions; LCM for finding common denominators.

Is GCF the same as HCF?

Yes. 'Highest common factor' (HCF) is another name for the greatest common factor (GCF) — they mean exactly the same thing.
