Frequently asked questions
Can you take the square root of a negative number?
Not within the real numbers — no real number multiplied by itself gives a negative result. (Such roots exist among 'imaginary' numbers, which this calculator doesn't cover.) Cube roots of negatives are fine, however: ∛(−27) = −3.
